This resource guide was created to assist people living with disabilities, and those who care for
them, in accessing tools supporting a broad spectrum of developmentally appropriate tasks that
can reduce health risks through the promotion of healthy relationships and sexuality. Youth and
adults with a wide range of intellectual, developmental and physical abilities and disabilities
can benefit from the resource listings, which include books, CD/DVDs, curricula and trainings,
websites, helplines and support groups.
>>>> Did you know that there are several certified sexuality trainers available throughout the Commonwealth to educate families and individuals about safe sexual practices? SAFE - Sexuality Advocates For Education is designed to teach adolescents and adults with varying abilities to understand the difficult concepts of social skills and relationship building, a sex education component included. All DDS employees are mandated reporters of abuse or suspected abuse involving physical, mental, verbal, emotional, financial, or neglect - this can be done through the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) whose job is: To protect adults with disabilities from the abusive acts or omissions of their caregivers through investigation oversight, public awareness and prevention. The Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) operates a 24-hour Hotline to which citizens of the Commonwealth can report incidents of suspected abuse involving adults with disabilities by dialing 1-800-426-9009 or 1-888-822-0350 TTY.
